Now’s the Time to Give Your Professional Brand a Refresh!

By: Patty Prosser
I’m sure we’ve all seen articles and even experienced firsthand the benefits of having a strong Professional/Personal Brand can have. It can help you build your network, it helps minimize the imposter syndrome, it can increase your confidence, and it can increase your credibility, etc. Your brand represents what you want people to know about you! But, have you checked in on your brand lately?
Keeping your brand up to date takes time, but it is critical, as circumstances change so quickly. It’s important to make certain your brand continues to serve your audience and purpose. After all, life is unpredictable, and you want to be prepared for whatever opportunities come your way! Your brand needs to consistently reflect the narrative you want others to see.
Here are some tips:
- Periodically do an audit of your on-line presence
- Make sure your resume and linked in profiles are up to date and consistent
- Does it still tell the story you want it to tell?
- Does it resonate with the audience you are trying to reach?
- Does it reflect any new skills, certifications or endorsements you may have gotten?
- Continually re-assess your goals and values
- Does your brand reflect where you are today?
- Does it accurately reflect your “Why”?
- Are there any changes that need to be made?
- Is it reaching your intended targets?
- Make certain you are continually expanding your brand’s reach
- Does your brand reflect the relevant groups and forums that can grow your visibility?
- Are you following the right people/are they following you?
As we get ready to start a new year, now’s the time to make a plan to do a personal branding audit, across all relevant platforms and channels.
Remember, your brand reflects your product – YOU! You want it to be relevant, consistent and accurate, to showcase your continuous commitment and alignment with your goals and aspirations. Take a proactive approach to maintaining your brand’s health and vitality. That way you can ensure that it remains aligned with your mission, values, and target audience.
