Lisa WaltonCareer Transition Coach
Lisa has been a Career Transition Coach with Career Consultants for almost three years. However, her journey to this position has taken a few twists and turns. She grew up in Indianapolis and earned a BA in Sociology at Miami (Ohio) University and a MA in Sociology at Northwestern University. After graduate school, she joined the staff of a small, women-owned training firm in Chicago as a facilitator and instructional designer. Through that experience, she gained the skills that she’s used throughout her work life to help employees improve their performance and advance their careers.
The next 15 years were spent in a variety of roles at Toys R Us in Chicago and New Jersey, first as a regional HR Manager, and culminating in leading the training and development function for the entire corporation. Lisa launched R Us University, a corporate university that championed life-long learning for managers and associates, and led a variety of diversity and organizational culture-building projects as the company evolved from a task-orientation to one more customer- and employee-focused.
After the sale of Toys R Us, she returned to Indianapolis and built the employee training function at Butler University, a small, independent liberal arts university. She also led the recruitment team as Director of Employment, working with both staff hiring managers and faculty search committees to recruit and retain a diversity of talent.
This background provided a path that has brought her to her current position with Career Consultants. She finds it deeply fulfilling to provide guidance to her clients as they embark on new opportunities on their career journeys.
